Biography of NAETU

by NEFARIOUSofNAETU, posted 01/19/09 20:15:33

Naetu came to life in early 2002, when Vorkgnar (lead guitar/backing live vocals) and Nefarious (bass/vocals) began working on original material which was greatly inspired by scandinavian black and melodic metal from the early to mid 90's era (ie Enslaved, Emperor, Dissection, Dark Funeral, Dawn etc). Fast, aggressive black metal with meldoic undertones, but done the Australian way! Exploring concepts of the darker side of life that 'normal' people fear and simply do not care to entertain any such thought of....

For 2 years the pair slowly began to compile songs, and hence, reached a point where they felt the requirement for additional members. From this, local identity and booze hound, Noxeraph was recruited into the Naetu fold as rhythm guitarist. And shortly after, the drummers seat mounted by a previously unkown identity, Nisrach. Now with a full set list, the quartette reached the 'gig ready' level. Unfortunatly family issues forced Nisrach to leave the fold before even playing gig!

With such a set back, motivation was now at an even higher level than ever before! And as the leaves began to turn with the looming arrivals of winters cold breathe, local hoon, Xaphan took the hot seat behind the skins! This felt like a stronger combination for all, and so rehearsals began once again in Xaphans garden shed, how grim and sweaty indeed! During 2005, the foursome began cultivating ideas, the creation of the band logo took place, the decision to don the beloved corpse paint was also made. But more identity was needed! And from the disturbed mind of Nefarious, came the new spin on the 'leather and spikes' look of kult favourites like Gorgoroth. What emerged would be dubbed, 'the blades'. Aluminium knife edged blades (reminiscent of Wolverine's throat slashers) that actually will cause harm if handled incorrectly, just ask Noxeraph about when he gave himself 3 stitches in the thigh!

And now with the stage attire complete, Naetu hosted their debut ceremonyin early 2005, which was aptly called 'The First Bloodfall'. A well above average size crowd made the trek to lay witness to Perth's newest underground offering, and this set the tone for their reputation as being a powerfull live band. A handfull of live ceremonies were performed in the remainder of 2005/2006, which then brought the decisin to record a debut album, that which would be entitled 'The Burning Lands'. In early 2007 they entered the studio, but problems were soon evident with Xaphan's abilities in the studio. Being given a few more months to practice and try again, Xaphan made the decision to move to another city shortly before being due in the studio to retry the recording. This both shattered and enraged the remaining three, as they were only given 5 days notice of this.

Luckily, a young drummer by the name of Trevor Owen from local tech death band, Grotesque, heard of Naetu's plight and offered his services to help them finally record their grand debut (and a couple of gigs). His brilliant technical abilities and high speed blasts lifted the album to a level of destructive force the trio did not see possible, and in late summer of 2008, it was complete! The launch ceremony was a grand black metal affair held under autums kiss (April), being supported by the local black metal talents of Bereavement (which Nefarious also played bass in for a short time), Wardaemonic and Furor. The night was a huge success with double the anticipated crowd size which led the venue to run out of tap beer!

And with such victory, came the sad farewell of Trevor from the fold, as his comittment had been fulfilled. This led the trio back to the gloomy path of trying to find a decent black metal drummer in a small city, this became too much for some, which led to Noxeraph deciding to leave the fold. Still determined to continue, Vorkgnar and Nefarious began writing new material, and found them selves in a highly creative period! The search for new members was ever present, and their perservirance paid off, first finding well travelled skin blaster, Guland (formerly bassist for Perth's Furor, drummer for Sydney's Pestilential Shadows and Secratain, and vocalist for kult black metal legends, Naxzul), and Sentient on guitars to fill the remaining position.

With the coming of the 2008 'festive' season, Nefarious held an event under the banner of his promotional side project, Blood Black Productions. Santa's Slay Fest was the first ceremony for the all new Naetu line up, and with 2 new songs added to the bill, destroyed all who stood before them in a set that reached nearly an hour (some of which can be found on YouTube). 2009 will see much happening in the Naetu horde......... Arise and conquer!
